Peralta Trail

Another one of my favorite places to go hiking. The Peralta Trail is at the southwest part of the Superstition Wilderness Area. It is a popular destination for hikers and you will see a steady stream of people on the trail on the weekends. Make sure you bring plenty of water, a hat, and sunscreen. This trail can look deceptive, this first half mile or so it is fairly level, but after a mile or so it gets steeper, and the last half mile or so to Fremont saddle is really steep.

Also watch for rattlesnakes. Almost every time I go hear of someone seeing a rattlesnake on the trail. Don’t bother it and it will not bother you!

You get to the Peralta Trailhead by taking US-60 east, past Gold Canyon. Peralta Trailhead is marked with a sign. You take a left at the sign and cross the highway. The paved road goes through a subdivision. After crossing the cattle guard it turns into a dirt road. Follow this road until you get to the trailhead parking lot. There are two lots, an upper lot and a lower lot. If the upper lot is full, you’ll have to park at the lower lot and walk back up to the trailhead.

Along the trail, the canyon walls tower above you with red rock spires. The trail crests at Fremont Saddle, where you can get a beautiful view of Weaver’s Needle. Or, you can continue on along the trail and finish your hike at the First Water Trailhead.
